Tourney #1 Results
As shown in the screen shot of the PokerStars tournament lobby below, a total of 26 vintage baseball card collectors participated in the shootout. Jason Barden (TheKidNYC) was the last player standing, riding into the sunset with the $130 top prize. Jeff Prizner (bicem20) took 2nd place honors and $78. Our own Brett Hardeman (BrettHardemn) walked away with 3rd and $52. (Note: I would like to say that Brett learned to play Texas Hold'em from me, but it was actually the other way around.) |
Congratulations to Jason Barden for his hard-earned win. It does pain us a little to see the "Kid from New York City" take top prize in a Texas Hold'em tournament. We can't help but observe, however, that more than half (5 out of 9) of the players making it to the final table were Texans! We are happy to report that all of the top five players in the tournament are subscribers to Old Cardboard magazine. All five therefore qualify for Bonus Points toward the 2008 annual championship trophy and other awards. They are listed below: 1st (5 points) Jason BardenPlayers should not fret about the points already scored in this first tournament. It is still and will remain an open race for many months to come. For example, the 3rd place winner in the "prototype" dry-run tournament held last December was the first to go out in this January tourney. Further, the 1st place finisher in the prototype game came in 22 out of 26 in the January contest. And the 2nd place winner in the dry run had to sit out for this event. If this flip-flop pattern continues, the winners for the 2008 Tournament Series will probably be too close to call until after the National elections in November. The next tournament will be held Tuesday, February 26 at 7:30 Texas time (8:30 Eastern). It has been set up with PokerStars as "Old Cardboard #2" (PokerStars Tourney #74854086). Password for registration in the private event is e107e107. Early registration is encouraged to avoid any last minute misfires in registration or funding. Players can always "unregister" if a schedule conflict comes up. Thanks again to all for making our first tourney a great time for everyone.
