Baseball Stamps For Sale
$575 The 1914 Pritchard Stamp of Fred Snodgrass is a highly sought-after piece from this scarce set featuring portraits of Major League Baseball players (the New York Giants and New York Yankees) and Yale University baseball players. Fred Snodgrass of the Giants is a famous figure in baseball history, primarily known for his "muff" (dropped fly ball) in the 1912 World Series, but he was a key star for the Giants during this era. This Snodgrass example is in excellent shape. Although partially worn, the back still has the original gummed back intact; it has never been glued into an album. Further details about the 1914 Pritchard Stamps are provided on the Old Cardboard website.
$1520 This 1913 stamp picturing Ty Cobb comes from an exceedingly rare set of which little is known by today's vintage collectors. The stamps measure about 1-3/4 x 2-1/2 inches and have blank backs. There are noticeable signs of wear and creasing visible on the front and back of the stamp (see high-resolution scan for detail). Overall, however, a very rare and appealing addition to any collection. BONUS: Several cards of non-sports subjects (virtually unknown to baseball collectors) have been added to this auction as an added bonus. The subjects on the four stamps are: Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Indian Chief Regan-Pa, and the American Army. The condition of the four non baseball subjects is about the same as the Cobb card shown here. Further details about this 1913 Baseball Player Stamps are provided on the Old Cardboard website.
$2150 Offered is a very obscure and highly sought 1927 stamp featuring Babe Ruth. It is part of a series cut from the Winnie Winkle section of syndicated Sunday newspaper comics. The stamp is one of a series of ten stamps; all are now in the baseball Hall of Fame. Backs are printed with random unrelated content (from the opposite side of the newspaper). Why 1927 Matters: In the world of Ruth collecting, 1927 was a watershed year. It was the year of "Murderer's Row" and the Bambino's 60 Home Run record. While the Rinkeydink isn't a "mainstream" issue like a Goudey or American Caramel, its extreme scarcity makes it a trophy for "type collectors" who want something from that specific, historic season. This Ruth example is meticulously hand cut from the newspaper and displays beautifully without any creases, stains or other significant flaws. A very minor "scrape" along lower edge is visible in high resolution scan of stamp front. Further details about this 1912 Baseball Player Stamps are provided on the Old Cardboard website.
$1900 This lot offers an appealing example of Christy Mathewson from an exceedingly rare set of which little is known by today's vintage collectors. The stamps measure about 1-3/4 x 2-1/2 inches and have blank backs. There are noticeable signs of wear and creasing visible on the front and back of the stamp (see high-resolution scan for detail). Overall, however, a very rare and appealing addition to any vintage collection. Further details about this 1913 Baseball Player Stamps are provided on the Old Cardboard website.
The complete set of 30 stamps featured in this set were all printed in bright colors on a 5-by-6-stamp perforated sheet. All players are shown in full-length "action" poses taken inside an empty Yankee stadium. The stamps in this set are all neatly mounted in an album produced exclusively for the set. Notably included on the inside front cover of the album are images of 10 Yankees players (including Joe DiMaggio) who were at the time actively serving in World War II. The album (and stamps) are all in above average condition. Aside from several very small creases or scratches on the front cover, all are virtually flawless (select images to view hi-res scans). Further details about this 1944 Yankees Album and Stamps are provided on the Old Cardboard website. | |||||||||||||||||||
