Although it is an extremely scarce issue, the 1879-80 N.Y. Clipper Woodcut picturing Mickey Welch marks his earliest individual appearance on a baseball collectible. Subsequently, a unique example picturing Welch known as 1885-86 N-UNC was produced several years later. The first traditional baseball card picturing Welch originates from the 1886 Old Judge - New York tobacco set. In addition, Welch also appears on an 1886 J. Wood Studios Cabinet card as part of a group of New York players photographed by the famous local studio. Another extremely rare card depicting Welch was included within the H812 New York Baseball Club set.
